Dear Betsy,
Sometime ago you printed a letter from a reader who was not able to be romantic with his wife and another from a woman who wanted children.
Reading the letters and your replies helped me a bit but it has taken me some time to find the courage to write to you.
I love my wife but can’t seem to do my manly duties and I have heard that you can buy pills from the pharmacy without going to the doctor.
I need to know how many to take and if there is any danger. Please don’t publish my name or email address as I am so embarrassed by this.
Private Person
Dear Private Person,
I realise it must have taken a lot of courage to write to me, but you did it! Well done for taking that first step. It is never a good idea to take any medication without consulting a doctor. Viagra or other such drugs are no different.
There can always be side effects with any medication and if you have certain medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol or heart disease then certain drugs may be potentially dangerous for you.
You need a medical check up as you may be suffering from an undiagnosed medical condition that affects your sexual performance.
If so, then Viagra will not be the answer. It is also best to remember that drugs like Viagra do not necessarily have a miraculous effect.
If you have low libido then you need to work out the underlying cause(s) as viagra is not an aphrodisiac. Stress, anxiety, overwork, health concerns all need to be addressed and the best way to do this is to have a chat with your doctor.
Doctors are used to listening to the most intimate of problems and I can assure you they will not be shocked.
You have already found the courage to write to me so please follow it through by making an appointment with your doctor, you won’t regret it.
