Gulf Weekly Simply amazing

A lot has been written about Amwaj Islands since the development was conceived in 2001, but nothing prepares you for exploring this grand feat of engineering first hand.

Glistening blue waters surround the four square kilometres of reclaimed land that sweep into the Arabian Gulf in a network of islands connected by sandbars and bridges.

Situated off the coast of Muharraq, 15 minutes from Manama, the development is set to become a thriving community with an estimated 30,000 residents.

By the time it is completed Amwaj Islands will incorporate a BD50 million shopping mall, a Marriott Hotel, a beach-front resort, dozens of restaurants and bars and an international school.

Driving around Amwaj Islands’ numerous curves and arcs is an impressive expedition. The contemporary, stylish architecture is reflected in canals and lagoons where small boats are tethered to marinas and jetties.

There is a nautical feeling throughout the development, from the wave-like architecture to the luxurious white-sands of its private beaches.

As the developers explained: “Amwaj Islands is a development built on a vision of returning waterside living to the people of Bahrain.”

And waterside living does not get much better than this vast 6,352 sq ft duplex penthouse apartment.

Located in the centre of the sweeping curve of Tala Island the apartment is one of only 10 like it.

Extensive open-plan spaces with striking views over the rippling waters of the lagoon offer contemporary island living.

The current owner, who bought the property off-plan a year and half ago, said: “The views are a real highlight and there is such an amazing feeling of space.”

The property is deceptively enormous. But despite its 5,215 ft of internal space it does a good job at not feeling cavernous.

Large windows mean that natural light floods the apartment, while the open spaces and marble floors make the property feel cool and airy.

At the front of the property there is a large open-plan sitting room, extending to a second reception area, each with towering windows and French doors leading to terrace balconies.

There are balconies on both levels of the property that total a considerable 1,142 ft. Perfect for parties, barbeques and roof gardens, these areas also benefit from privacy – because the apartment occupies the top two floors of the building meaning the balconies are not overlooked by their neighbours.

At the back of the property there is a spacious kitchen, dining room, study, large utility room and self-contained staff quarters.

Upstairs there is an impressive landing which could double as another sitting area. There is also a kitchen and five well-proportioned bedrooms each with impressive views. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, dressing room and balcony.

Despite having no garden, the fact the property has spacious outdoor areas and individual access to the beach more than makes up for it. There is also a large communal pool area to relax in.

For desert-dwellers seeking cooler, seafront climes with an urban setting, this impeccably designed stylish property could be just the ticket.
