THE life of food-lovers in the kingdom will be spiced up thanks to the opening of the new Bombay Chowpatty at the Bahrain Mall food court.

The outlet hails from the Chowpatty beach area of the Indian city of Mumbai - a destination renowned across the sub-continent for its many food vendors and snack stalls serving hot and lip-smacking dishes.

The restaurant is part of the Lal's Group of UAE and this is the first franchise in Bahrain. The company has three outlets in the Dubai suburbs of Karama, Lamcy Plaza and Barsha.

Harish Sewani, director of Bombay Chowpatty, said: "I had been trying to bring the brand to the island for the past 10 years and had been looking for a suitable location.

"Bahrain Mall is an ideal spot - it's a centre-point for office-goers from the Seef district and Manama and, also, the mall has ample parking."

The station has nine cooks - all from various states of India to bring the most authentic tastes of the country for diners.

The food bar offers a range of Indian delicacies from Lucknowi chaats to South Indian dosas.

The strict-vegetarian menu contains bhel puri (puffed rice with spices and tamarind sauce), pani puri (literally meaning water in fried dough), sandwiches, dosas (South Indian crpe), pav bhaji (bread and potato curry), special thali (an assorted collection of eatables) fresh juices and milk shakes.

Also available is a wide array of sweet dishes including faloodas, gulab jamun, rasgulla, ras malai, jalebi, kulfi along with many more.

One of the endearing aspects of the outlet is the special typical ice crushing machines often seen on the beaches of Mumbai.

One example is the 'barf ka gola' machine which makes crushed ice into a popsicle with flavoured fruit syrups poured over it ... a taste sensation predominant during the summer season.

"It has proved quite popular so far - not just with the Indians but the local crowds as well," Mr Sewani added.

The cooks from the outlet shared two of their favourite recipes for GulfWeekly readers.
