Indian School Fair

Indian pop-queen Usha Uthup was the star attraction at the two-day Indian School Fair 2008 that opened at its grounds in Isa Town on Thursday.

Indian Ambassador Balkrishna Shetty was the chief guest. A fashion show under the banner of Al Jazira Group was also held.

The event also featured an exhibition for toddlers to display their talents and brain teasers from various departments.

Entrance with a raffle ticket was priced at BD1 each.

The event was expected to raise more than BD80,000 towards fee concession for needy children and enhancing facilities. Part of the proceeds will go towards the construction of a new building and a computer lab as well as to introduce audio-visual facilities in all classes. The total cost of this project is BD1 million.

On Friday, thousands of people attended the final day of the fair.

Popular Indian singers Mohammed Aslam and Preetha were the star attractions at the event and Labour Market Regulatory Authority chief executive Ali Radhi was chief guest.

Meanwhile, Filipina Roman Gunita (ticket number 076876) won the first prize of a Toyota Corolla car at the grand raffle draw. The second prize, of a Sony 60 inch Bravia LCD TV was won by Indian Vaidehi (083272). Indian Ravikumar (096611) won the third prize of an N-82 Nokia mobile phone sponsored by Intercol. The results were announced the end of the fair.
