Spread awareness of key issues

There is something that I would really like to share with you this week. All those who know me realise that I prefer stating my ideas and opinions through words in the GulfWeekly rather than going out and protesting on the streets about what I believe in and stand for.

However, this week, when I went to the Friday prayers in my town, a group of people were planning to stage a peaceful protest against the violent acts suffered by the poor Palestinian people.

At first I did not want to participate because I know that sometimes protests in Bahrain tend to get out of order and people end up doing things that they regret later.

On the other hand, both my dad and brother wanted to take part in this demonstration, so I did not have a big say in it and as a result I ended up taking part.

The demonstration's central issue was about how we as a nation can help the Palestinians regain their dignity and their land.

Now, do not get me wrong, due to my religion and beliefs I do believe it belongs to the Palestinians and the Palestinians only, but my mum taught me before she died that if we were all the same we would not learn anything new.

Anyway, continuing with what happened at the demonstration, the imam spoke, of course, about the Palestinian people but what really caught my attention was how he explained about what the youth can do and their power to really make an impact when it comes to spreading awareness of important issues.

It is up to today's technologically advanced young people to make a stand on issues of importance that need to change, be it about Palestine, or awareness of illnesses like breast cancer, for instance.

Therefore, to my young readers, I would urge you to choose one thing that is wrong in this life and spread awareness about it in any way you think possible. Maybe, just maybe, we can make this world a better place.
