AS thousands of fans get set to descend on the Bahrain International Circuit an army of operatives are working behind the scenes to ensure the event on and off the track proves to be a memorable occasion.

With four years experience behind them the team of professionals know what is expected and also appreciate nothing can be left to chance.

And it's the fine details that make all the difference and with an attitude of excellence and a determination to succeed the unsung heroes and heroines are confident they can pull it off again.

Ahmed Atia Ahmed, 28, maintenance crew member, Zallaq:

I pretty much do everything in terms of maintenance and preparations for the big race. I work on painting the track, the welding and cleaning as well.

I have been working with the BIC for the past four years and every year feels like the first time. I am constantly motivated by my director and put my all into maintenance of the circuit.

At the end of the day, we are setting an image for Bahrain by keeping everything in order. I am very excited for the race this year as I am every year and we will not disappoint. As everyone enters the circuit during F1 they will be amazed at how much it shines once the maintenance crew is done with it.

Favourite F1 team: Undecided - loves the race in general.

Karim Jawad, 47, technical operations manager, Hamad town:

I have been working with the BIC from the beginning. I have worked on four grand prixs and this is my fifth.

There was a lot of maintenance to be done in terms of painting the garages, cleaning the track and the buildings and setting the parking and the fences. Basically, we have to make sure we cover every aspect.

We are working with a facility team as well, so we are a big group working together to make the circuit a clean and safe environment.

Things run a lot smoother now that we have the experience of preparing for Formula One. Also, after visiting other circuits such as in Spain, Germany, or the UK I have been able to pick up new methods as well which can be introduced here.

Safety is also very essential at the Bahrain International Circuit and we are always working on new ways to improve it. Even while preparing for the Grand Prix we are being cautious and safe. Thank God, we have been injury free since the beginning of the BIC.

I have a great crew of 30 made up of Bahrainis and workers from other Gulf states and all over the world. We need a big group because we end up dividing into sections.

For example, this week we are painting the buildings, the track, the paddock area and wherever else is required. The circuit will have a beautiful fresh look about it. That's when you know we are ready!

What I love about the Formula One, aside from watching the race and the atmosphere, is seeing the finished product after the crew and I have worked our magic.

Seeing the BIC looking so good makes it all worthwhile!

Favourite F1 team: Honda - I believe there will come a day that Honda will take the lead!

Ibrahim Ahmed, 22, maintenance, Hamad Town

I have been with them for two and a half years working in the workshops and anything to do with maintenance of the track. I do a lot of welding and there are days I supervise other work.

My favourite part of the F1 is watching the races and enjoying the crowds. It's a great time to be with family and friends and overall a wonderful experience to have.

Favourite F1 team: I love Ferrari and I hope they win again like they did last year.

Yousif Janahi, 37, senior civil engineer, Saar

This is a very essential time for us as we are putting Bahrain's name on display for all to see. Bahrain has become a lot more international due to the Formula One.

When people come to watch the race, they also get a chance to experience Bahrain and we make sure that they have the best time ever and remember the island for the beauty it really holds.

For me, the best part of the F1 is when the teams and visitors are walking away from the circuit with a satisfied smile on their faces. I then know that the job was done well.

Favourite F1 team: Everyone says McLaren and Lewis Hamilton and although I should be a supporter I truly love the BMW team.

Nawaf Al Ansari, 29, team logistics manager, Hamad Town:

I help supply the necessary equipment and requirements the F1 teams need from their home countries or from our catalogue.

I love the set-up of the whole race. Altogether it is a great experience. You feel as if you are racing with them because you grow so attached to the teams.

Favourite F1 team: McLaren. I am a big supporter.

Beshara Beshara, 24, assistant head of safety and security, Riffa:

I am in charge of all the admission control operations, crowd control, car park control and the grand stand. We have to make sure that all spectators can get into the BIC whether it's to the car park or inside the circuit.

Maybe they need help to get to their seats so we have to make sure we have staff available and that all the spectators are comfortable.

While preparing for the big day we train all staff on how to direct spectators to the right locations. We also supply safety courses, first aid courses, customer service, leadership courses and courses on how to handle complaints.

I have been with the BIC since 2004 as a track marshal and then joined the BIC operations department later that year. I was later transferred to the safety and security department which I love being a part of.

My favourite part of the F1 is watching the people enjoying themselves and everything running smoothly. To hear them say 'thank you' makes it all worthwhile but even a smile helps!

Favourite F1 team: McLaren. Bahrain has a share in the team so it's our investment after all.

Geshe Willers, 35, event manager, Adliya:

I handle everything that has to do with food and beverage, from the catering to VIP catering.

In order to be ready for the F1 we have to prepare months in advance. We are getting more and more organised.

Over the years, of course, there have been improvements. You always go through what needs to be changed and that takes priority. If it didn't work then change it and improve!

Favourite F1 team: McLaren, of course!
