Marking the second anniversary of the Al Dana dhow tragedy, survivors and relatives of those who lost their lives attended a memorial service at St Christopher's Cathedral, Manama, on Sunday.

Friends and relatives lit candles in memory of loved ones.

The disaster claimed the lives of 58 people, when the dhow caps ized on March 30, 2006, during a party organised by contractor Nass, Murray and Roberts to celebrate the completion of concreting on the Bahrain World Trade Centre.

Scores of people and officials attended the service, including UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister of State Dr Kim Howells and British Ambassador Jamie Bowden. Fifteen Britons were among those who died.

Twenty-two Indians also lost their lives and another memorial service took place at The Indian Club in Gudaibiya, which was attended by Indian Ambassador Balakrishna Shetty.
