Clean chit for track

THE Formula One track boasts one of the cleanest surfaces in the world ... and two mighty mean machines are employed to ensure every spec is gathered up before the hi-tech racing machines roar into action.

The same technology is used to ensure airport runways are safe for aircraft to land.

The BD300,000 Austrian Holzmann sweepers are taken for a spin around the circuit on a daily basis, washing the track and sucking up dirt at the same time.

At the rear of the 16-tonne machines - hired from Al Gosaibi Group - are two hose pipes, one pipe disperses water and the other acts as a powerful vacuum. Technical Operations Director Karim Jawad said: 'The track has to be cleaned on a regular basis as even one pebble could cause a pile up.'

Observers told Gulfweekly the track was clean enough to eat your dinner off and hot enough to have cooked it too!
