A former Southern Baptist and 'door knocker for Jesus' in her US hometown of Florida, Deonna Kelli Sayed found Islam and lost her heart to a father-of-five and one-time Afghan mujahid, reports Asma Salman.
As well as getting a ring on her finger Deonna, 35, inherited a ready-made family of five children born to his first wife in Afghanistan.
Today she cherishes her role as a mother of six, the youngest being their own son, Ibrahim, six.
"I had never imagined my life to turn out this way but now when I'm in the midst of it all everything seems so normal and usual," she says nonchalantly.
Deonna's tale is as extraordinary as her commitment to her husband Sayed Aqa, 44 -_who fought in a bloody war against the might of the Russian army - and his family, which has taken her across continents to the devastated backwaters of Kabul.
The softly-spoken American is once again packing her bags and with the children in tow is moving to a totally different time zone in the hope of a better future for her 'Afghan tribe'.
As she prepares to leave the shores of Bahrain to once again set up house in America she speaks about her extraordinary life and how living in Bahrain has helped her to discover a vocation for writing and an ability to share the written word.
