Raw talent and a flair for unique designs make Salma Khan one of the most prominent wedding dress designers in the Middle East.

Originally from Pakistan but raised in Dubai, the desire to design and sew stems back to childhood when Salma spent many a night with her mother using beads and sequins to uniquely customise garments, a favourite pastime of the Khan women.

She went on to achieve a professional qualification in fashion design from Dubai's London College of Art and after seven years in the business Salma claims she can never learn enough about fashion and designing.

In a bid to be ahead of the game she attends the prestigious St Martin's London School of Fashion every summer to take courses in pattern making and colour mixing to keep up to date with the latest techniques.

When asked what she loves about her job Salma said: "I love creating the perfect dress for a bride-to-be. We work together over a period of time and build up a rapport. When I see the girl smiling and looking happy in her gown, I know in a small way I have made a dream of hers come true.

"Making someone happy is such a rewarding feeling and I feel I have reached my goal."

Europe's chic Paris and glamorous Milan are regular cities for Salma to visit as she explores fashion capitals in search of unique ideas.

With inspiration found at top fashion shows it is no surprise that some of the most prominent families in Dubai have requested Salma's unique designs for a variety of occasions, from glamorous evening dresses to fabulous outfits for a day at the Dubai World Cup.

In London, Salma is drawn to cutting-edge and trendy boutiques along Sloane Street and The Kings Road in Chelsea where the small shops often house unique designs fresh from university graduates.

Although her designs reflect her rich Middle Eastern heritage, Europe is a fantastic place.
