Underground heroes to rock Bahrain

Metal gig 'Ground Zero' is set to rock the island at The British Club on Friday. The bands performing include The Project, Mushroom Massacre, Re-Alive and Motor Militia.

The rock music scene in Bahrain has witnessed dramatic changes over the past few decades. During the early 70s a few Bahraini local artists began showing interest in Western music and in particular 'rock'.

Shortly bands such as 'Osiris' emerged to create the foundation of progressive rock in the country.

The rock scene was always considered an 'underground' art form but with the turn of the 21st century, a 'wake up call' went out for rockers around the island and newer bands began taking a different approach by creating original music and not just repeating covers.

Bands such as 'Smouldering in Forgotten', 'Through Sunken Eyes' and 'Motor

Militia' recorded 'home-brew' albums before distributing CDs in several other countries.

They promise a rocking good evening at the British Club on Friday starting from 5pm.

Doors open at 4.30pm. Tickets are BD2 in advance from Room to Rock in Hamala and BD3 on the door.
