'Tis that time of the year again when pumpkin sales hit an all time high, children roam the streets in search of sugary sustenance and things go bump in the night. Yes, Halloween is here and Showtime promises to jangle those nerves, tingle those spines and curl those toes with a month long horror fest!

If horror's your bag then Showtime's got a veritable sack full of vintage delights from the classics cupboard and some off the latest bloodthirsty hits too. So turn on the mood lights, grab yourself a good, sturdy pillow to hide behind and tune into the Showcinema and Showmovies Halloween extravaganza!

The horror begins with the second instalment of Hostel II. Presented by Quentin Tarantino, it is the shocking and gruesome sequel of the underground torture ring where rich businessmen pay to torture and murder their victims.

A month of horror wouldn't be complete without films based on the stories by the suspense master Stephen King. While Showcinema screens Mist - a creeping, crawling descent into an other-worldly nightmare, Showmovies has John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson teaming up in the terrifying thriller 1408.

Michael Myers lives again as writer/director Rob Zombie returns to John Carpenter's classic shocker Halloween for an ultra-violent update. If your blood isn't running cold by now then check out the latest hit starring Josh Hartnett, 30 Days Of Night... A vicious gang of vampires comes a-calling when the sun goes down for 30 days in a remote Alaskan town.

If you still haven't had your fill of horror, then tune into the Ground House double that will have you on the edge of your seat every minute of the way. Director Tarantino delivers an adrenaline shot to the heart with Death Proof, a peddle to the metal, white-knuckle ride behind the wheel of a psycho serial killer's roving, revving, racing death machine.

And as if you needed an excuse to stay within the safe confines of your own home on the creepiest calendar date of the year, on October 31 Showmovies will supply you with six back-to-back spine chillers from 3pm. The line-up includes Jaws 2, The Fog, Tales From The Crypt, Vacancy, The People Under The Stairs and The House Next Door.
