Global firms to take part in food and hospitality show

TOP international firms in the food and hospitality sector will showcase their products at an exhibition this month in Bahrain.

The first Food and Hospitality Expo 2009 will be held from Tuesday to January 15 at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre (BIEC), under the patronage of Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The expo is being organised by Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority (Beca), which is chaired by Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Abdulla Fakhro.

Dedicated to the food, beverage and packing technology industries, the exhibition will bring together an international audience of buyers, retailers, distributors, food and beverage professionals and the media.

The event addresses the GCC region's strong demand for new products and future trends in food and beverages while offering business and networking opportunities.

Admission to the exhibition is free.

Companies from Thailand, India, Saudi Arabia, Croatia, the UK, Lebanon and the UAE, as well as supermarket chains in Bahrain such as Lulu Hypermarket, Al Jazirah and Alosra supermarket and several five-star hotels will also take part.

As part of the show, staff from 10 hotels and restaurants in Bahrain will set up a demonstration kitchen, featuring fruit carving, ice sculptures and glass juggling.

The Ministry of Health will conduct seminars on food hygiene and nutrition and will offer free blood pressure and blood sugar examinations to all the visitors. Ministry of Social Development will also have a traditional Bahraini live cooking station.
