The new BMW Z4 made its global debut at the North American International Auto Show 2009, along with the latest BMW models featuring advanced sustainable mobility technology, reinforcing BMW Group's position as the world's leading premium automotive manufacturer.

Demonstrating a modern interpretation of the classic roadster design with its extra-long front lid, low-slung front end, long wheelbase and low seating position, the new Z4 embodies everything that the BMW brand stands for - combining innovation with elegant design and exceptional driving dynamics.

Characteristic design features such as the extra large engine compartment lid, black A-pillars and gill intakes signal the next generation of sports models from the group. The upright BMW kidney grill, wide air intake and flowing shoulder line maintain the brand's styling language and the exceptional road presence for which it is known.

Also on display at the Detroit show and a major attraction of the BMW exhibit were the latest ActiveHybrid technologies. The new year sees the introduction of hybrid drive systems offering the power and performance typical of the BMW brand while significantly reducing both fuel consumption and emissions.

The BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid and the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid models represent the significant developments made in BMW Group's robust 'efficientdynamics' strategy, which combines features for optimum energy management and aerodynamics with light-weight construction.

Both the Concept X6 and 7 Series ActiveHybrid models will be ready for production in 2009 with customer delivery at the end of the year.

Also representing a major landmark in alternative fuels is the Mini E. BMW Group is the first premium automotive manufacturer to introduce a fleet of fully electric-powered cars for private use in the United States and Germany, to gain real customer feedback on electric drive cars.

The Mini E project will help gather important information on purchasing criteria and the feasibility of introducing electric-drive cars on a wider scale.

Through its new models and drive concepts presented at the 2009 Detroit Motor Show, BMW Group once again proved its competence in the development of innovative and future-orientated vehicles.
