WHITAKER'S VERDICT

Martin Whitaker, chief executive officer at the Bahrain International Circuit which will be hosting the season's fourth race on April 26, says:

Changes of rules close to the beginning of the season will never be received well and, therefore, the decision to postpone is probably right as it clearly needs thinking through in greater detail.

However, what I am for is anything that is designed to make Formula One more attractive to the paying spectator and the television viewer.

We have seen what an impact the Aussie V8 drivers make on the crowd when they are here in Bahrain with autograph sessions and personal appearances never too much trouble.

The new breed of Formula One driver is certainly becoming much more understanding of the demands of the paying spectator. It was very encouraging to see Timo Glock doing such a great job at the recent test and both Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton prepared to share their time with the fans during testing and the Grand Prix last year.

We must never forget that sport is all about entertainment and the new initiatives promoted by the FOTA in recent weeks are extremely encouraging. Hopefully, they will see the light of day.
