GUTTED Bahraini Hamad Al Fardan, pictured right, took 17th spot in the final race of the GP2 Asia Series ending the sixth and final round of the tournament in utter frustration.

A gear box fault caused the GFH team iSport driver to withdraw from the first race at the third lap and the 21-year-old hoped for better luck in Sunday's second race.

But to make matters worse he was involved in an accident with Venezuelan driver Rodolfo Gonzalez on the first corner in his third lap which led to the withdrawal of Gonzalez alongside six other drivers.

After the incident, Hamad declined to go into the pits for maintenance as he wanted to complete the race.

Hamad said: "It was not a good race at all because we had some really bad luck over the weekend.

"I don't think I am lucky in Bahrain. The first race day I had trouble with the gear and an electronic issue. That landed me at the end of the grid and it is difficult to do something from there. I hope I can do something better next year and attract more sponsors to make it possible."

Hamad also hopes to secure support to compete in the GP2 Main Series which begins next month.

He thanked Gulf Finance House for its generous backing which has just concluded, Gulf Air for its support and taking care of international travel arrangements and regular supporters such as Bapco.

Hamad finished the season in 20th position in the drivers' standing with two points. His team gained 13 points.
