THE weekend saw the end-of-season showjumping championship at the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) grounds in Budaiya.

Held over two days - Friday and Saturday - both juniors and adults took part, each showing some very impressive riding.

Juniors kicked off at 5pm in an attempt to beat the heat and Oscar Lauri fired up the afternoon's events winning first place on his mount Mr. Bombastic in the Junior One class, closely followed by Hussain Al Afoo on Muhajer.

Junior Two saw Ahmed Al Alawi ride to victory on Tyson, with Natasha Owen and Dual Time hot on his heels. The Junior Three class saw Isa Al Sheikh and Twistaire take first place with Natasha Owen and Dual Time, once again securing second place in the day's events.

Not to be outdone, the adults put in a great performance of horsemanship for the season finale, and Adult One saw Sami Ghazwan and Chilli secure their first victory of the evening. Ahmed Abdulsamed and Zubair came a very close second. Ghazwan was on top form and once again took first place in the second adults class with Abbas Al Ghuraifi riding Indoctro hot on his heels.

The riding season has now come to an end for the summer and most riders will use this time to rest and dote on their mounts. The hot summer months make it difficult to compete and therefore everyone uses the time for some well earned rest and recuperation.

However, before everyone zooms off for the summer, TPRC is holding an Equestrian Extravaganza this Friday.

You will note from my column last week that this promises to be a great day out for one and all so I very much hope that you will all be there to cheer on the variety of acts that will be performing.

I shall certainly be there. Remember, it is likely to be a warm day, so bring your hats and sun cream; TPRC will provide the rest, from entertainment to refreshments and snacks!

See you on Friday!
