Drag racers set the pace

More than 80 cars and bikes from across the region competed in the fifth round of the ALBA Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship this week at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

Following intense competition in the fourth round and record-breaking times, the weekend saw drivers step up to the plate for the penultimate round to record top times and positions as they prepare for the final round later this month.

Rashid bin Tammem from the UAE broke the record in the 7.5 class with a time of 7.510 seconds, while Bahraini Fadhel Saleh of Al Sham Team had a personal best of 11.473 seconds in the Street FWD category, as did Mohammed A.Redha in the Super Street FWD group with a time of 10.101 seconds. Meanwhile, Mohammed Haji of Team Get Boost scored a personal best of 8.414 seconds in the Super Street RWD.

The Pro Mods continued in true fashion as Bahrain 1 registered a 1-2 for the team with Khalid Mohammed taking top place in 6.205 seconds with Ali Aryan finishing second with 8.098 seconds. Team SPG's Ali Al Kaabi from the UAE took third place with 6.344 seconds.

In the biking categories Kuwaiti and Saudi bikers stole the show with Saudi's Mishari Al Turki, Hatan Al Abadi and Raffat Al Shareef stealing the top three positions in the Super Street Bike category. In the Pro Bike category it was an all-Kuwaiti victory as Mishal Al Saber took first place in 7.192 seconds with Mohammed Bu Rashid second in 7.448 seconds while Khalid Al Foozan completed the quarter-mile stretch in 9.692 seconds.

Action continues on the weekend of May 25-27 when the season's champions will be crowned. Tickets to the Grand Finale can be purchased at BD3 for adults and half price for children up to the age of 15.
