Quality is the hallmark for the University College of Bahrain's (UCOB) success in the national and international arena of education.

Recently at the first EDUNIVERSAL World Convention that took place in La Sorbonne, Paris, the university was recognised for its excellent educational standards and was awarded the 3 Palmes Award, which highlights Quality Assurance. It was also acknowledged as one of the best universities in the world and the second best in the Gulf region.

This year 178 students both from the undergraduate programmes of business, information technology, multimedia and communication and from the masters programme of business administration were conferred degrees. They are among the more than 700 students; 530 pursuing undergraduate courses with a fifth of the students receiving scholarships and financial aid from the university.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain, founder and president, Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, said: "In these seven years, we have faced many challenges and difficulties, but this has not diminished our resolve and our insistence on excellence and quality.

"Some of the University's achievements include the EDUNIVERSAL Award for Quality Assurance where UCOB was the second best in the Gulf area and the mutual agreement with Hong Kong's University of Science and Technology for a student exchange programme."

Dr Khalid also expressed an urge to reform and develop higher education in Bahrain and raise the bar of quality. He said: "A country that lacks ambitious young people with successful experience and qualifications cannot achieve this goal through low university standards but through universities with professional high-quality education principles.

"The best hope is the reform of higher education and development for the better, to be worthy to bear the name of Bahrain and the quality of higher education should be as good as Bahrain gold."
