ONE of Bahrain's leading hotels has appointed a new general manager ... and he's already had a taste of the competition on the island, writes Stan Szecowka.
Heinz KrŠhenbŸhl started his new role last week and said he was determined the award-winning Mšvenpick Hotel Bahrain would continue to deliver high standards despite the global recession.
He said: "Definitely the economic turndown is a challenge for each individual regardless where you live, and Bahrain is not an exception to this. It is important to focus on the market and the market situation on a daily basis in order to read the trends. But above all 'never to compromise on the quality of product and service'; that is the key for being ready when the market turns stronger again."
Mr KrŠhenbŸhl described the kingdom as 'friendly and welcoming' and he replaces Jan Kaiser, who, after a four-year stint in Bahrain, has been appointed general manager of the company's Ibn Battuta Gate property in neighbouring Dubai.
A Swiss national, Mr KrŠhenbŸhl is an alumnus of the prestigious Swiss Hotel Management School, Lucerne. He started off his career in the food and beverage industry in 1978 and gained experience in Switzerland, Russia, United Arab Emirates and many countries in the Middle East, such as Beirut, Jordan, Lebanon and Kuwait.
Delighted with his move to Bahrain, he said: "I have noticed the overall product value and service of Mšvenpick Hotel Bahrain is of the highest standard and I am really exited to work for one of the best Mšvenpick Hotels worldwide."
The hotel also boasts one of the island's most popular restaurants called Silk's which is acclaimed for its steak and seafood nights as well as Friday brunches.
Described as a cooking enthusiast, Mr KrŠhenbŸhl has been pleased to discover the rich variety of gourmet and cuisines offered throughout the kingdom. "I have visited some of the restaurants in town and the quality of the food and beverage, as well as the service, was outstanding."
Having recently developed a fondness for golf, he hopes to hone his golfing skills during his spare time in Bahrain. With a passion for football and an eagerness to join in the Formula One fever that hits Bahrain every year, Mr KrŠhenbŸhl enjoys spending time with his family and walking his dog, a five-year-old chocolate brown Labrador.
