WORK colleagues at a travel business in Bahrain have been cooking up some tasty snacks and have raised more than BD2,200 for charity in a week.
More than 50 members of staff at Sabre Travel Network Middle East have been involved in the community initiative called 'Give Together'.
Sabre Bahrain joined company offices from 56 countries around the world to participate in the global campaign to raise funds for good causes and locally the Bahrain Cancer Society will benefit from its endeavours.
CEO Daniel Naoumovitch said a series of fun activities have taken place at Sabre's offices on the 10th floor of the NBB Tower in Manama. The office block is the home for a range of companies including a bank and a research company.
"We put together a 'Cake Bake & Sale' and everyone brought along home-made sweet and savoury goodies," said Mr Naoumovitch. "The reception we received from employees of other companies based in the building has been overwhelming. People had been coming in to buy treats and have left behind generous donations.
"We even held a raffle draw supported with donated prizes including hotel stays, lunches, dinners, sight-seeing tours and laptops - the number of gifts given to us was tremendous. I want to thank everyone who has helped."
Even the staff's families joined in the fund-raising fun and a computer soccer tournament proved popular with their children.
As part of the breast cancer awareness campaign throughout October, the company also invited volunteers from the American Mission Hospital to give a lecture on the disease and offer detection advice as well as free health checks.
Mr Naoumovitch added: "We strongly encourage staff community activities and Give Together is the perfect time when everyone can get involved.
"Our global Give Together campaign serves as an annual reminder of the importance of helping our communities and gives our staff a framework to engage in fundraising activities that make a positive contribution to society."
Earlier this year the company staged a special get-together to support the RIA Centre in Adliya by cleaning and helping to replant the special school's garden.
Sabre Travel Network connects travel buyers and sellers through a global distribution system which links travel agencies with airlines, hotels, car rental companies and cruise lines.
Considered to be the company's largest global philanthropic endeavour, the Give Together campaign has raised more than $12 million worldwide since its inception in 2000.
