NEW Zealand plans to give the red carpet treatment to Bahrain's players, officials and fans when they arrive in Wellington tomorrow.
The city is buzzing with anticipation for the play-off encounter between the All Whites and the Mighty Reds and its dignitaries want to reciprocate the kindness and respect shown to their travelling party in the first leg.
The Mayor of Wellington Kerry Prendergast, above, said: "Assalam alaykum - greetings from Wellington, New Zealand.
"There is a great deal of excitement here about the FIFA World Cup qualifier between New Zealand and Bahrain.
"New Zealanders are better known for following rugby, but the match on November 14 has created unprecedented interest and there won't be an empty seat in the stadium.
"I hope the crowd will include plenty of Bahrainis. We love our teams to win, but we also love to entertain visitors.
"Wellington, New Zealand's capital, is a diverse and exciting city. With our bush-covered hills, beautiful coastline and vibrant city life there is something to entertain any visitor - and Wellingtonians love sharing their city with guests.
"This is the arts and culture capital, home of the national museum Te Papa, galleries, theatres and many other cultural attractions.
"Even if the weather is colder than they are used to, guests from the Gulf are guaranteed the warmest of welcomes.
"May the best team win!"
The players and officials will be staying at the InterContinental Wellington Hotel and Geoff Naumann, area director of sales & marketing, added: "Wellington is very excited - it will be a big night in our national stadium."
