VISITORS were given a guided tour of the Grand Mosque and briefed on the history of the Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Centre and the importance of Eid during a special holiday gathering.

As part of its continuous efforts to promote better understanding and harmony between different faiths and cultures, especially between people living or visiting the kingdom, the centre hosted a special 'Open House' during the recent Eid Al Adha holidays.

A spokesman said: "Our centre is dedicated to spreading the message of peace, love and peaceful co-existence between all people and welcomes non-Muslim expatriates and tourists who wish to visit this great architectural marvel and experience traditional Arabic hospitality in a serene atmosphere."

The invitation also went out to all non-Muslim staff in governmental ministries, big and small companies, agencies, hotels, embassies and consulates and members of associations and social clubs. Visitors enjoyed traditional Bahraini sweets, cakes, pastries, dates, Arabic coffee and tea.

In addition, there was henna painting for ladies and calligraphists wrote the names of visitors in beautiful Arabic calligraphic style all free of charge.

The event was held under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, the Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs, and the programme was sponsored by the ministry and conducted in joint co-operation with the Discover Islam Centre.
