A father has praised the efforts of a team of quick-thinking medics who rushed to help an unconscious toddler who had paddled into trouble in the sea.

Alba medical team administered first aid to three-year-old Saeed Mahmood after it was feared that he had drowned near Malkiya beach as onlookers celebrated the launch of its re-development.

The actions by nurse Hussain Makki and assistant nurse Mohammed Abdul Nabi were applauded and grateful father Saeed Makhi said: "Incidents such as these prove beyond doubt that we need to be ready for emergencies and first-aid services at festivities and celebrations should be a priority."

Alba's chief nursing officer, Ebrahim Al Yassi, added: "It was the prompt response that played a crucial role in saving the little child's life. The team wasted no time in administering first aid procedures and closely monitored the child's temperature until he regained consciousness and fully recovered."
