Scotsman David Park produced his best round of the tournament to lift the prestigious King Hamad Trophy and finish one shot ahead of Zamal Hossain of Bangladesh and Nasser Yacoob of Bahrain.
Awali Golf Club professional Park, who was four shots behind the leader in eighth place heading into the final day's play, carded a final score of seven-over-par 223 over three rounds on the Montgomerie championship course at the Royal Golf Club last week.
"It is very special to win this tournament and come away with the King Hamad Trophy. I've won the Bahrain Open in the past, and this one's right up there, if not better," said Park after the prize presentation.
Bangladeshi Hossain had the title in his grasp after a fantastic performance over the front nine in round two, which he finished three-under par. But a double bogey on the par-five 14th ruined his momentum, and he could not recover enough to take the win.
Bahrain's Yacoob finished with the same three-day total as Hossain, but did not do as well in the final round as he carded a three-over-par 75. He appeared unsatisfied with the way he completed the competition, but still emerged as the top Arab player in the event.
Moustafa Hammoud of Lebanon was fourth overall while Ahmed Almusharrekh of the UAE was fifth. Both players had a three-day total of 225, but Hammoud had the better final round score. He carded a one-over-par 73, while Almusharrekh was three-over.
Bahrain's Hamad Mubarak Al Afnan came sixth on 226 strokes, while Clarke Lutton from Scotland and Bahraini Ali Saleh rounded out the top eight on 227. Defending champion Graham Spring finished in ninth place.
Shaikh Abdulla bin Salman Al Khalifa presented the trophies along with Bahrain Golf Association (BGA) deputy president Brigadier General Khalifa Al Fadhala and Batelco chief executive Gert Rieder.
Along with the King Hamad Trophy, Park came away with $5,000 (BD1,885) in prize money. This year's competition has been approved by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (the R&A), and it counts towards the R&A's amateur world rankings.
