MODELS stepped out in style with a green message and stunning designs as part of the kingdom's first-ever 'recyclable fashion show', reports Anasuya Kesavan.
It featured the work of 13 Bahraini and expat designers, artists and students and attracted an audience of 400 to the Lagoon at Amwaj.
Zahra Taher, Eventscom founder and CEO, who helped organise Friday's show as a spin-off of its annual environmental awareness campaign, said: "There were dresses made with the highest standards of professionalism. Moreover, there were jewellery and masks on display that were also made from recyclable items which reflected the extent of creativity and imagination."
The event was held under the patronage of Shaikha Hind bint Salman Al Khalifa, president of Children and Mother's Welfare Society, believes the show will help spread environmental awareness.
She added: "We saw distinctive creations of fashion from items we consume daily and did not expect to end up showing such creativity."
A judging committee, which included Bahraini designer Huda Qarooni and artist Abbas Al Mosawi, took into consideration the material used, elegancy, imagination, creativity, colour compatibility, wear-ability, overall aesthetic and beauty aspects before deciding on the winning designs.
First place went to hairdresser Louie Capistrano, from Saar, second place to hairdresser Mon Calalang, from Hoora, and another design by Louie took the third spot too. Student Yara Adel, 14, won the children's category.
Louie said: "I am so grateful to the organisers for giving me such a chance to show off my designs."
The winners received a selection of prizes and certificates.
