Chris Hurter shot a respectable 79 gross to win the Black Tee Challenge on the Royal Golf Club's Montgomerie championship course.

Arun Varma, 2004 Club Captain of the former Riffa Golf Club, came up with the concept for this annual competition in which golfers, regardless of handicap, battle it out under tough conditions. All players have to tee off from the black tees, those furthest away from the greens.

"With the course playing at 7,243 yards long it was inevitable that some high scores would be posted," said Phil Jones, the club's director of golf operations.

Results - Lowest Gross Winner: Chris Hurter (gross 79); Gents Category 1 Winner: Ronan Armstrong (net 80); Gents Category II Winner: Haitham Haji (net 79); Ladies Category Winner: Sara Thompson (net 89).
