JEEP'S Cherokee is an excellent off-road vehicle with a luxurious interior - a rare combination in the realm of SUVs.

And if luxury is high on your list of priorities the limited edition will certainly tick all the boxes. There is everything you would find in a top range saloon, lush leather seats, sun roof and satellite navigation too.

The Cherokee was the first family car I bought in Bahrain three years ago, primarily on the insistence of my good lady wife, Kathryn, who wanted to drive something she could feel safe in ferrying the children to school each day on the precarious highways.

At the time she was making the miserable trek from Saar to Awali before St Christopher's School transferred all the little 'uns to the new school premises closer to home.

Our Cherokee is build like a brick house and judging from the occasional prangs it endures it tends to come out in front on most occasions.

It does the job and is also good fun to drive and the children have never complained of travel sickness, whereas in my more sedate saloon they are always complaining. I don't know if that has anything to do with my wife's alleged superior driving techniques or the airiness of the Cherokee, I prefer to believe it's the latter.

The 2010 Cherokee has a more modern look and feel about it, the front is bolder and boxier than the bulbous-looking model we drive.

I was particularly impressed by the improved black and silver topped pulley switch which allows the vehicle to switch from two-wheeled drive to four-wheeled drive options in a far less clumsier manner.

Numerous other motoring commentators have been positive about the vehicle, backing up many of my stated observations. "A solid, steady ride, with car-like handling and comfort and easy interior ergonomics make the Cherokee a driver-friendly car," reported Car Gurus and "The Cherokee provides ample room for a family of four without being too cumbersome. It's comfortable and stylish without being obnoxiously overloaded, and it has a reassuring steadiness under the toughest road conditions," suggested the Mother Proof website.

Some were critical about rear seat comfort and cargo capacity but I can honestly say neither have been issues with the Szecowka family, in fact quite the opposite. From our personal experiences it's a car that will not disappoint.

And, for the hard facts, it comes with a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and lockup converter, electronically controlled 3.7 V6 front engine.

The Limited edition is available starting from BD8,950. Contact Behbehani Brothers on 17459955 for more details.
