Gulf Weekly Saloon leaves its mark

I'm becoming quite fond of the Audi - the marque is marking its mark on me and every new model I drive leaves a lasting impression of quality and motoring enjoyment.

The A6 3.0 TFSI quattro is luxurious in every sense of the word and one of the most satisfying saloons I have tested in recent months.

It looks good on the outside, smarter on the inside and even its massive boot boasts the wow factor.

I heard of one company where the office boys locked a newcomer in the luggage compartment of the boss's A6 as a bit of a spirited jest ... and he liked it so much he wanted to sleep in it!

Mind you, when you look at some of those labour camps on the island I suppose it's not surprising.

The Audi A6, though, is a car to enjoy with excellent handling, braking and acceleration ... and even clean! The happy service crew at the Audi Centre Bahrain couldn't help smiling as they prepared it for my test drive.

I fully understand why they are so proud of it ...they don't stay on the forecourt for long!

This is also a car that guarantees to make the most stressed company executive enjoy his motoring experience.

Standard options includes automatic headlight activation, axial and vertical adjustable steering column, cast aluminum alloy wheels, 8Jx18, 5-spoke V design 245/40 R 18 tyres, CD changer and DVD player for MMI navigation plus, central control unit, door sill trims with aluminum inlay, electric blind for the rear window, electric lumbar support for the front seats and seat adjustment for both front seats.

Opening the locked car door is a fascinating trick because all you need is the key in your pocket.

I particularly liked the simple way my mobile phone was able to connect to the Bluetooth facility on board allowing instant hands-free communication. But, my prize feature on this car was the 'parking aid plus' which somehow clicked into action on screen in a magical mind-reading sort of way and made parking even in Manama a pleasure.

My test car's charcoal grey colour was quite striking and the interior deserves a special mention too as it boasts a classic fine grey ash trim which fitted perfectly with the interior design and overall look.

It is available now for BD26,750 which includes five years warranty with unlimited mileage, five years/105,000 kms free service, five years roadside assist and first year registration.
