Bahrain last week mourned one of its leading businessmen and philanthropists, Abdulla Ali Kanoo, who died at home following an illness.
Tributes poured in for the 83-year-old Yusuf Bin Ahmed (YBA) Kanoo Group chairman and chief executive officer.
Mr Kanoo was involved with the group's activities involving shipping, travel, aircraft handling, machinery sales and services as well as general trading. He also guided the family business in the fields of oilfield supplies and services, chemicals, procurement services, airfreight, cargo services, insurance, investments and business services.
Mr Kanoo was instrumental in creating the kingdom's health infrastructure including the establishment of health centres and specialist medical facilities as well as donations to primary and secondary medical care facilities.
Mr Kanoo headed several companies in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. He is survived by wife Mariam, sons Ali and Ahmed and daughters Lamya, Hana and Safia.
