Irish soul sensations on stage

The annual Bahrain Irish Festival will mark its 35th anniversary this year with a series of traditional sport and cultural activities.

A live show will be held on Thursday where The Commitments will be the headline act at JJ Murphy's Irish Restaurant in Adliya.

They will perform again on Friday as the main act during The Kentz Feile Cheoil (Music Festival), which will take place at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club, Saar, alongside the Middle East Gaelic Games.

It will feature live performances of Irish dancing and songs by Inis Ealga dancers, Didgericruise, Bahrain Acoustic Music Group, Victoria Dance, Taxi, Declan O'Sullivan and Pure Irish Craic as well as St Christopher's School student Daryl Egan.

A record number of 26 adult teams from all around the Gulf are set to take part in this year's Gaelic games competition, the first Middle East tournament to be officially ratified by the Asian County Board of the Gaelic Athletics Association (GAA).

Activities include exhibitions of Irish sport and entertainment as well as various games for children as well as a bouncy castles and face painting. Entry is BD3 per person or BD5 for families and proceeds will be donated to local charities.

On Saturday JJ Murphy's will host a traditional post-tournament breakfast and de-briefing from noon.

The Bahrain Irish Festival 2010 is organised by the society in conjunction with the Arabian Celts GAA Club and is sponsored by Aer Rianta International Middle East, SA Kentz, Mercury Engineering, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI-MUB) and Bahrain Duty Free.
