Following the success of the Spectrum Group 1st Bahrain Open Rink Hockey Tournament, the Bahrain Hockey Association (BHA) is reaching out to players of the future.

It will be holding a junior hockey tournament on February 4-5, 2011 on the turf at St Christopher's Junior School in Saar.

The tournament will be split into two categories: U-11 and U-15. Four schools will participate with each side comprising of six players in a round-robin format on normal outdoor 6-a-side pitches.

The move represents the objective of the BHA, in 2011, to reach out to younger players. BHA president Garner Vaz said: "Having successfully revived hockey though our activities in 2010, it is now time for us to implement a plan to draw schools together in the sport with a vision to developing younger talent in the kingdom."

Through the assistance of long-time hockey enthusiast and well-known figure in Bahrain hockey, David Axtell, the tournament is expected to attract competitive teams. The BHA will provide some participating schools with hockey equipment and is seeking sponsorship to be able to provide all schools with the necessary equipment.

Coaching will also be offered to assist schools to help prepare for the tournament.
