Wednesday (Feb 2)A workshop on Original Play, a non-competitive rambunctious natural play programme, will be held for families with children aged four to six from today onwards at Brain Body Dynamics in Budaiya. Original Play was created by Dr Fred Donaldson, a play specialist from the US, through his 30 years of research and experience with play behaviour. Parents and adults are invited for a free workshop at 6pm. Dr Fred will also play with children aged for to six and families tomorrow at 6pm. This session is BD30 per family. On Friday and Saturday a workshop for adults will be held from 10am to 5pm at BD170 per person or BD150 per person for a school group. The Rainbows for Bahrain in Muharraq will celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rabbit, from 9.30am to 10.30am with drumming and dancing. Children aged seven and below are welcome with their parents. There will be the ceremonial Dragon/Lion Dance welcoming the New Year, drumming, fun and games.

Preliminary rounds of the annual St Christopher's Young Musicians of the Gulf competition will be held this coming Monday and Tuesday at St Christopher's School, Isa Town. Semi-finals will be held at the Saar site on Wednesday at 6.30pm. Admission is free.

The grand final will be held in the Gulf Convention Centre, Gulf Hotel on February 10 at 6.30 pm. Tickets are BD5 inclusive of snacks. The event, supported by Gulf Air, celebrates the 14th anniversary this year with 120 young musicians participating during the four-day performance and competition.

In addition to solo instrumentalists and singers, a range of chamber ensembles, including madrigal groups, string quartets, brass quintets and other groups, will compete for the Ensemble Prize. Expert Adjudicators flown in from England will be the judges.
