CATHY Murphy is leaving EastEnders. The 43-year-old has announced she will be bowing out from the BBC Entertainment soap after eight months of playing feisty stall worker Julie Perkins.

The news has been confirmed by an EastEnders spokesperson, who declined to comment further.

The actress recently finished filming on the show, and viewers will see Julie depart screens in the coming weeks.

Her character left Billy Mitchell’s (Perry Fenwick) life upside down when she turned up and revealed that they have an adult son together. Julie has taken on various jobs, including a cleaning role at the Queen Vic and her current position at the market.

Danielle Harold has been cast as Julie and Billy’s granddaughter Lola Pearce, causing speculation that her entrance will lead to Julie’s exit from the soap.

Also on the Square, actress Lindsay Coulson can hardly believe her luck – she could be about to enjoy an on-screen fling with her former teen idol David Essex.

A spark will develop between Lindsay’s character Carol Jackson and David’s Eddie Moon after he stops Carol accidentally running over Roxy’s daughter Amy.

“Carol is delighted when he makes a move on her,” an insider said. “The attraction is there but they both have too much on their plates to start a proper relationship for now.”

Lindsay, 51, has confessed she used to be a huge fan of David Essex when she was a teenager. She revealed earlier this month: “I went to all his concerts. Don’t tell him – I was 14. He was lovely!”
