Gulf Weekly End-of-season party

The fancy dress final of the Dilmun Show Jumping League for this season was staged on Friday and, according to stable manager ‘Gypsy Rose Lee’ Lisa Powick, it was the best fun yet!

The costumes were amazing, reducing the tension for all the competitors and making the atmosphere very relaxed.
Peachey Ihalainen’s fairy costume was so good it won her a free riding lesson. A special mention must also go to Rangerino for the ‘Raver’ look Amelia Boyd gave her.

The afternoon’s start time was delayed due to the temperature, though no-one seemed to mind. “I don’t think we stopped laughing all day,” said Lisa.

The final event brought a close to a thrilling league season. There were no surprises as to the winner in the adult section – Hamad Fakhrawi, aka Ozzy Osborne, however, was determined not to sit on his laurels, again taking top spot.

The runner-up prize went to Lara Croft, namely Fran Downes, a fabulous job, although Wonder Woman Sharon Nicklin was only two points behind in third place.

The junior section saw serious rodeo riding from Aimee Keen to secure her the winner’s podium, with Cowgirl Tamara Alomary clinching the runner up spot.  Close contender Kathryn Spink was sadly unable to participate due to a broken arm but managed to keep herself in the top three thanks to the points she had accumulated. An incredible season for all the participants ... but, it’s not quite finished!

The GulfWeekly Champions League Show, featuring all those placed 1st to 3rd in this season’s league challenge, will be ‘invited’ to compete for a glorious trophy on Friday. The exact competition details are still to be announced, however, I understand it will be a mixed event, both juniors / adults competing together, with a series of elimination challenges.

The season will come to a close with a presentation and prize giving evening held at the Dilmun Club’s Candles Restaurant on July 8 where the league’s various champions will be awarded.

l ON Saturday Twin Palms Riding Centre will bring its season to a close with an alternative gymkhana or ‘Jumpgymkhana’ - a fun event, followed by a BBQ.

The participants will be in pairs, a child with an adult, or teenager. Everyone has to participate in all four classes, which consist of bareback potato race, treasure hunt (as there is jumping involved in this class, saddles will be permitted) horse & hound, first rider/pony complete the course, then their partner/hound have to complete the same course (pooches are available to loan) and, finally, an obstacle race.

The event starts at 5pm. For details contact 39566809.
