Gulf Weekly DEENA DOES IT AGAIN

DESPITE the league nearing its end, the valiant teams continue to play hard in the hope of securing more points for the final countdown. Last week’s fixtures featured the unbeaten Arsenal Yellow against the ever-improving St Christopher’s Intermediate Girls and the Desert Divas versus Arsenal Red.

Arsenal Yellow dominated, despite missing several key players, defeating St Christopher’s 3-2. It was a well-played game with great displays of skill and strategy. Yellow’s senior coach, midfielder and oft-hat-trick hero, Deena Rahman, did it again with another three strikes. She said: “I was just lucky. The true heroes are the Arsenal girls who played really well. Defender Jen Gilbert was a great leader and helped secure the win.”

Other star performances came from midfielders Hanan Hassan, Maryam Shurahiddin, Stephanie Le Vesconte, Fatema Al Balooshi and Dalal Al Ansari, as well as striker Tamara Kawash.

Rahman added: “St Christopher’s Intermediate has truly come a long way in the last 12 weeks. They all worked extremely hard with a great attitude and have shown an immense amount of improvement.”

St Christopher’s striker Laura Henson scored both goals for her side.

In the second game of the evening, the Desert Divas rose victorious against Arsenal Red with a convincing 3-1 win.
Divas forwards Janet Kellagher and Amanada Hadgiannis and defender Sonique Van Nikkelen-kuyper all scored. Reds striker Dalal Abdulrahim hit one back but it was never enough.

Divas team manager and forward Patti Giaschi, said: “Everybody tried really hard. In fact both sides wanted it just as bad as the other which made for a hard, toughly fought game.”

On Monday evening Arsenal Red played Joga Bonito and Arsenal Yellow took on the Desert Divas at the Batelco Sporting Grounds in Hamala concluding this season’s Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League.

The GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy will be handed over to the table-toppers on July 2 at the Med Café in Budaiya at 6pm.
