A leading academic involved in the pioneering Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry into the recent civil unrest which broke the nation’s heart believes the ‘truth’ can help the people heal, unite and move the country forward to a peaceful and prosperous future.

But Professor Sir Nigel Simon Rodley, a leading expert in the field of international human rights law and one of five eminent, non-Bahraini commissioners who also have expertise in the fields of international law, hopes the ‘blame game’ will not stifle the process.

The inquiry has one simple objective.  “Nothing more ambitious than to try to establish the truth when there are such profoundly competing accounts of events, to evaluate that truth in the light of the international human rights standards to which Bahrain  is solemnly committed, and indicate the appropriate remedies to ensure reparation for victims and avoid repetition of any human rights violations,” he told GulfWeekly.
