The Rice Bowl at the Bahrain City Centre offers mall visitors and shoppers a relaxing haven to sit back and enjoy Indian and Chinese delicacies.

Situated on the ground floor and parallel to the far-end entrance of Carrefour hypermarket, the restaurant is comfortably tucked in a cosy corner.

The welcoming interiors feature red and cream walls with sketches of Indian and Chinese landmarks. There is ample seating and wooden screens allow diners to savour their meal in privacy, uninterrupted by scurrying mall patrons.

The menu is designed in the shape of a bowl – a clever allusion to the name of the restaurant – and features numerous delicacies ranging from starters and grills to desserts.

A selection of appetisers makes way for a good start to the meal with an array of Indian tandoori and grilled options including kebabs, samosas and rolls. The Chinese section offers a similar fare including favourites such as dumplings, chicken wings and tempura prawns.

The Curry Bowls section is rich with a list of traditional Indian concoctions including rogan josh, korma, gosht, paneer and dal. The menu also caters to biryani lovers with a choice of chicken, prawns, mutton and vegetable options.

The bread section allows diners to choose from rumali roti, parathas and tandoori naan.

A special ‘rice bowl’ page offers a variety of recipes as well as the options of lo mein or soft noodle and chow mein or crispy noodles from the Chinese kitchen.

To round off a perfect meal, the menu also offers a choice of traditional beverages as well as authentic sweets such as phirni, gulab jamun, rasmalai and fried banana with ice cream.

Preparing the scrumptious treats is Chef Kamal Nayan Painuly and his team. He boasts 16 years of culinary experience and has worked with several leading industry names including India’s Oberoi Group.

Hailing from Uttaranchal in India, Chef Kamal, 34, joined the Al Azzam Group, parent company running Rice Bowl, in 2010. He started with the company’s Med Café and later moved to Rice Bowl’s first branch in Seef Mall.

Chef Kamal, who lives in Adliya, took over responsibilities of the Rice Bowl kitchen in the Bahrain City Centre when the outlet opened in November last year.

While he is well-versed with Indian cuisine, he also has experience in continental and Chinese food preparations.
The outlet also introduced a special lunch package which caters to office-goers. It includes a choice of soup or starter, one main course and one dessert or drink for BD3.5.
