The Jimmy Choo Autumn Winter collection for 2011 has been unveiled, much to the delight of fashionistas around the world, writes Mai Al Khatib.

Company founder, Tamara Mellon, OBE, says that the new collection is inspired by 1970s Parisian glamour and reflects the darker side of femininity.

Jimmy Choo took its cue for the new line from the sultry stars of the time such as Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Rampling, and Veruschka – all admired for their beauty and grace on-camera and their allure and sense of style off-camera.

Mellon said: “This season I looked to the women who have always inspired me with their chic and empowering sense of dress. Those who have experienced everything that life had to offer during such a glamorous and free spirited time. With this collection, I have updated that mood with a modern take.”

Boots are a staple of any fashionista’s wardrobe and are in high demand this Autumn Winter. The boots in the new collection are more streamlined and chic with soft calf leather either in black, olive and blonde, zipped up featuring in pale gold metal for an alluring fit.

Bags are staple accessories that can add pizzazz to any outfit. The CHOO 24:7 bags do just that and feature exotic fabrics such as grey lizard print leather, chocolate brown crocodile leather and champagne glitter.

A new signature bag is The Catherine bag, which is inspired by the mood of French film noir. It is influenced with ladylike classicism and tailored with couture details recalled from the formal handheld bags of a decadent era. The Catherine lock is scored and studded with metal craftsmanship made in brass with a golden finish.

The slim and beautifully-filled top handle drops to a soft rectangular shape with snapped pockets on each side. It also features a flap pocket on the side with a rectangular quilted motif and a zigzag stitch. The effect is sporty yet formal, channeling the moment when couture became casual.

Exotic styles in rich black and white wintery tones or dove grey crocodile skin can also be found as well as framing panels of flat-cut mink. Plain crocodile skin is cut in shades of midnight, purple and emerald, also realised in python skin with panels of quilted velvet, trimmed in black box calf in a mix of texture.

The Charlotte set is inspired by the pages of late 1970s French Vogue and the edgy shoots on location at the grand hotels of Paris. It is hard-edged but romantic with a touch of glamour.

The Veruschka collection of shoes and boots gives off of a sensuous vibe with artisanal decorative details, extreme texture and volume, new chunky heels, high wedges and a new proportion on the knee boot. The collection features oversized tassels, woven straps, whip-stitching, coloured feathers and equestrian-style gold hardware, feathered fox and Fin racoon.
