The Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry has requested an extension of the deadline to present its report investigating events during the period of unrest in Bahrain earlier this year.
The Commission asked for the delay in order to allow the thorough evaluation of the more than 8,800 complaints filed in the period between July 24 and September 30, as well as the preparation of the full report in both Arabic and English.
His Majesty King Hamad has accepted the request and the new deadline is set for November 23.
The BICI panel is chaired by Professor Emeritus Cherif Bassiouni, an expert in international law and human rights, and includes Sir Nigel Rodley, Judge Philippe Kirsch, Dr Badria Al Awadhi and Dr Mahnoush Arsanjani.
Since late June the panel members have been given complete access to all information deemed necessary to review events in February and March and subsequent related action.
