Gulf Weekly Unstoppable St Christopher’s Seniors rout U16 team to clinch Ladies League

THE goal-den girls who make up the St Christopher’s Seniors have clinched the GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy with another stunning performance in the Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League.

In the final league fixtures of the season, the Seniors walloped the Bahrain National U16 team 5-0 giving them the three points they needed to secure the title and Joga Bonito took the runner-up spot after beating Eastern Flames.

St Chris winger Millie Gallagher bagged a goal with winger Nichanan Kesonpat and forward Rebecca Shorrock helping themselves to a brace each.

The Seniors have been champions of the Bahrain Private Schools’ Sport League for the past two seasons and produced an unbeaten run in this competition which has attracted sides from across the kingdom and Saudi Arabia.

Their tally of trophies in recent years now numbers six. The GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy will shortly go on display alongside the schools’ league award, a school cup competition trophy and the Unity Dubai Cup, which they won in a contest featuring teams from schools across the Middle East.

The girls have set their hearts on more glory as this week they will be playing in a knock-out tournament involving all the teams in the Arsenal league.

Captain Jen Gilbert said: “I’m overwhelmed with happiness! Most of us have been playing together for around four years and the run of success has brought us even closer together. We’re out to get our seventh trophy!”

Joga Bonito pulled out all the stops but just couldn’t catch the Seniors and ended in second place. Within minutes of kicking off against the Flames, Joga’s captain Ala’a Al Darazi opened the scoring. Flames quickly replied through forward Ainsley Gibson but their celebrations did not last long.

Joga went on the rampage with star forward Sara Al A’ali notching a hat-trick. After two further own goals the pressure continued to be piled on with Reem Al Bash adding her name to the scoresheet as Joga hit seven.

Arsenal Blue defeated St Christopher’s Intermediate 4-1 to take third spot in the league. The Blues scored through midfielder Sam Turner and forward Dalal Abdulrahim with captain Rama Salem grabbing a brace. St Christopher’s Rawan Alsaegh replied.

A presentation night will be staged on December 16.
