DEFENDING champions St Christopher’s Seniors were off to a great start in the new season of Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain ladies league with an 11-0 victory against the Eastern Flames from Saudi Arabia.
Jen ‘Gilby’ Gilbert, St Christopher’s captain and centre back, said: 'The first quarter was actually quite challenging as we were only up by a goal, scored by forward Farah Al Anazourti.
'We noticed that their team had made a significant improvement defensively. However, a good team talk before the second quarter allowed us to get straight back into winning form.'
After the unstoppable youngsters regrouped, they quickly put out the Flames ending the quarter with a 5-0 lead, courtesy of Gilbert, winger Nichanan Kesonpat and a brace by forward Rebecca Shorrock.
After that, the Eastern Flames spirits began to fizzle out and the ladies seemed unmotivated for the rest of the game. The game ended with Shorrock notching a hat-trick, winger Millie Gallagher bagging a goal and midfielder Alia Haddad scoring two.
