I held my first solo exhibition in March 2009 in Bahrain as a tribute to the Taj bomb blasts in Mumbai and the Indian ambassador kindly inaugurated my exhibition.

Your newspaper graciously published the event. I had thereafter promised to present the painting to the authorities of the Taj to display as a tribute to those affected by this horrendous and barbaric act.

I was humbly received at the Taj by Birgiit Zorniger, deputy general manager, The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Mumbai, and my offering was accepted.

It was a matter of great pride and honour knowing that my painting would join the likes of some of India’s great artists.

Shahnaz Fayaz,
By email.

I have read Stan Szecowka’s brilliant and funny article headlined ‘Pure Heaven at the Mall’.

I just want to kindly bring to your attention that there is nothing in the Bahraini currency which is called fil, the correct currency is fils, which is a singular not a plural.

The letter ‘s’ is essential and it’s not the plural ‘s’, just like the ‘s’ in the word NEWS. We say one fils, this is the right and correct name of it, and not fil. In Arabic fils is the smallest currency unit (one dinar = 1000 fils). The plural of fils in Arabic is fuloos; and that’s why the Arabic word for money is fuloos.

In the old days we used to have a coin of one fils  value (with ONE FILS inscribed on its side). Due to its trivial value in these days it disappeared. I would pay a dinar to own one of those coins now!

Dr Tarik A Al Shaibani,
Bahrain.

We recently ran a competition with St Christopher’s School to design a ‘We are moving!’ poster and the results were pure magic.

It took ages to get the finalists whittled down as there were so many excellent entries, and we have decided to let people vote to choose the winners on our Facebook page.

Voting begins today at 9am and closes at 9am on March 21. We are urging all GulfWeekly readers, BSPCA supporters, animal lovers of Bahrain and especially all St Christopher’s students and staff members to support this group of poster makers.

All you need is a Facebook account and to be a member of the BSPCA Official Facebook page. See the amazing talent on display and try to decide which entry deserves to win. The posters are so fantastic – it is not going to be easy.

Tejas Oundhakar, BSPCA school liaison.
