Comedian Russell Brand has signed on to
host the MTV Movie Awards show for the first time on June 3 from the Gibson
Amphitheatre in Universal City in California.
The 36-year-old British comic, known for
his raunchy wit and rock ‘n’ roll sensibility is set to serve his humour to the
youth-oriented cable TV channel’s most watched programme.
“This MTV Movie Awards will be more
impressive than The Avengers, and you won’t have to wait an hour for someone to
Hulk out,” Brand said, comparing it to the summer blockbuster that recently
opened a box office record of $207 million in the US and Canada.
“With his amazing ability to span the full
spectrum of comedy from the most high to low brow, Russell’s smart,
unpredictable wit uniquely connects him to our audience,” added Stephen
Friedman, the president of MTV.
The top contenders for the show are The
Hunger Games and Bridesmaids, which have eight nominations each, including bids
for best cast, breakthrough performance and movie of the year.
Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Kristen
Stewart, Charlize Theron and Mark Wahlberg are among the stars set to appear.
