Kingdom Holding Company and Rotana Group
chairman Prince Al Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, pictured below, is to make
Bahrain the new home of Rotana Group and a new 24-hour Arabic news channel, Al
Arab.
He explained that the Saudi-based group
will consist of 13 channels that will be broadcast from Bahrain and among them
are Rotana, LBC, three FOX channels, Al Risala Channel and the new Al Arab news
channel which starts broadcasting early next year.
Not only will it create job opportunities
for Bahrainis but it will also improve relations between the two countries.
“This will serve as a catalyst to the
economy and human resources development. Rotana Group is well-known in the
Middle East and such investments will help Bahrain,” said Shaikh Fawaz bin
Mohammed Al Khalifa, Information Affairs Authority (IAA) president.
The signed contract states that senior
level management will be based at the Bahrain headquarters, but the Rotana
group will still continue to operate from its studios located in Beirut, Cairo
and Dubai. “We aim to start broadcasting by the beginning of 2013,” added
Prince Al Waleed.
