The Breast Cancer Support Group is meeting for the last time before the summer vacation, on Wednesday, June 6, at 11.30am, at World Beat Fitness Centre Cafe in Janabiya.
The guest speaker is Dr Yang - an acupuncturist and doctor of Chinese medicine at Bahrain Wellness Resort, Janabiya. Acupuncture, in some cases, can prove beneficial for ladies who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer or are post-operative.
Dr Yang will demonstrate the treatment which involves sterile, hair-thin needles inserted into specific points on the skin and then gently removed. This stimulates the nervous system to release natural painkillers and immune system cells. They then travel to weakened areas of the body and relieve symptoms, advocates believe.
Studies show that acupuncture can be helpful for specific symptoms associated with breast cancer and its treatment and may relieve fatigue, control hot flashes, help decrease nausea, muscle weakness, reduce vomiting and lessen pain. In addition, acupuncture can help in a supportive way by calming anxiety, improving sleep, increasing energy and helping to provide a general sense of well-being and vitality.
Dr Yang will also demonstrate Acupressure – an ancient healing art, using fingers to gradually press key healing points which stimulate the body’s self-curative abilities. It’s ideal for boosting the immune system, increases circulation, reduces pain and develops vibrant health, he claims.
The Breast Cancer Support Group is for ladies who have had a breast cancer diagnosis, whether undergoing treatment or in recovery.
