American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez has dismissed rumours concerning her future with the programme next season.
Lopez sent the tabloid press into a frenzy after appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres show claiming she ‘missed doing other things’. “Now this is my second year – I don’t know if I can go for a third year. I miss doing other things,” she said.
“It really does lock you down, which was nice the first year with the babies being three, but now they’re getting more mobile, they’re about to go into school ... so I just don’t know.”
Pop star Rihanna also added fuel to the speculation by saying that she thought British pop singer Cheryl Cole would be the perfect choice to replace Lopez.
Lopez later took to social networking site Twitter to clarify. “There is no truth to reports that say I am definitely leaving Idol. All I said was I haven’t decided what I am doing next year.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe mentioned that he wanted Lopez to stay, but believes the success of the show is ‘not about the judges, it’s all about young talent’.
