Sahara Riding Centre held a Show Jumping competition last Friday and put the skills of its riders and horses to the test in a fun and enjoyable way.

There was one class – a speed class with a joker at the finish. There were two fences to finish with the joker being worth double points if cleared.

The course was designed and built by Hussain Al Musawi and was both challenging and exciting.

It was all about accumulating points in the fastest time possible and there was a huge turnout with more than 20 horses and riders taking to the fray.

Although the competition was fun, it was still extremely competitive with riders having to be innovative on the ground coming up with short cuts that no-one else had thought of, and ensuring they accumulated as many points as possible during the round and the joker was put to good use.

The class brought out the best from the horses and riders, all done under the close scrutiny of the judges watching from their tower.

The competition was sponsored by Al Naseem Stud who provided trophies, and medals for the winners, also refreshments were available for everyone.

Whilst riders and spectators awaited the final results from the judges (primary judge being Ahmed Al Alawi) they were privy to a spectacular dressage display by Abul with his fantastic horse Drift accompanied by some wonderful Spanish music.

The finale of the day’s events came from a display of air and fire brought on by a free-style show of Arabian horses, stallions, mares, colts and fillies performed in another of the centre’s paddocks. It was a fitting end to a wonderful day.

Sahara Riding Centre is located in Saar and was established in 1991. It provides affordable lessons to adults and children of all levels and backgrounds and lessons are provided in Arabic as well as English, individually and in groups.
