Matt Sedgwick continued his impressive performance this year with another win, this time in the Royal Golf Club’s Club Captains’ Matchplay event.
American Sedgwick held off English member David Axtell in the final of the full individual event, coming through with a 4 and 3 victory.
In the ladies matchplay, youngster Tabea Lutz emerged as champion after defeating 2012 Lady Captain Danni Sheppard, who also happens to be her PE teacher. Lutz put in a strong performance to beat Sheppard on the 15th hole with a 4 and 3 victory.
ìMost golfers love matchplay,î said John Wilson, the Royal Golf Club’s golf operations and events manager. ìThis is the format that the Ryder Cup is played in and strange things can happen.
'You can be three feet away with a putt to win but if your opponent holes a 50-footer on a hole he has a shot and you’ve lost the hole.'
The popular pair’s matchplay event, The Pearl Trophy, returns to the Royal Golf Club in September. Golfers wishing to participate should email Anna Payongayong on golfevents@theroyalgolfclub.com
