DONATIONS are continuing to pour in and an army of delivery men are making sure the packages of goodwill from our family of readers are making their way to the needy, writes Mai Al Khatib.
Bahrain City Centre’s staff members are making regular drops of food supplies to the Al Noor Charity Welfare Society which is coordinating distribution throughout the holy month.
Duaij Khalifa Al Rumaihi, senior mall manager, said: “Ramadan is a traditional time of giving and we encourage the community to embrace this spirit by supporting our ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan’ campaign.
“Through this charitable initiative we are collecting goods such as non-perishable foods and other everyday items which will be used to support underprivileged families in the community.
“We have already received a tremendous amount of donations and we encourage others to ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan’ and share in the spirit of generosity.”
After the bags filled with donations are hand-delivered to the society’s headquarters in A’ali, they are then opened by Al Noor’s representatives and divided equally to each family on its books.
An Al Noor spokeswoman said: “We are delighted with the bundles of food that are coming in as it will truly benefit the families that are registered with us.
“We have so many in need and every canned item, bottle of vegetable oil, or bag of rice counts, especially during Ramadan. Groceries can be expensive and some families have five or six mouths or more to feed.
“Thanks to all the people who are taking part in the campaign and we hope that you continue to support us.”
GulfWeekly readers have been dropping bags of perishable food including chocolates, pasta, rice, Viimto, tomato paste, boxes of tea, and even jello into the large collection box located on the ground floor near the customer service desk at Bahrain City Centre.
Bahrain’s favourite weekly read has linked up with the mall for a second year to back the ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan’ community campaign which encourages customers to also donate everyday items such as clothing, books and eye glasses.
